Crooked Style

The roots of Crooked Style started in 2008 when Danny (drums) and Brian (bass) met in Groove Crew, a funk/soul band based in Cincinnati that features Danny on bass and Brian playing sax and harmonica. The two discussed their desire to begin a side project that would allow them to return to their main instruments and create the rhythm section that would become Crooked Style. The goal was to find a guitar player that shared the same passions, who would complete the power trio style of music they wanted to create.

In 2009 Danny and Brian were doing some gigs as the rhythm section for Rockstar Karaoke, a live backup band for audience members to front with their best karaoke performance. That’s where they met John who was also part of Rockstar Karaoke’s musician pool. Danny and Brian realized their year long search was over and the three began choosing songs and looking for a small venue to try out their tunes.

After a few phone calls the band was able to book a couple of shows at a local bowling alley’s bar/lounge. The small setting gave them a chance to evaluate the audiences experience and tighten up their sound. Although the gigs went great, the band realized that an additional member, to help cover the vocals, could be the final piece they needed to complete the vision they shared. Brian immediately thought of Matt who had sat in one night at a gig he was doing in a local bar. After a few calls, Brian was able to get Matt’s number and they decided to set up a jam. After this huge success, they booked their debut performance in July 2010.

The band members all stay busy with multiple projects that make Crooked Style a melting pot, bringing these four uniquely talented musicians together for an experience of stylistic instrumentation, vocals, and harmonies that can only be Crooked Style.
